Summary
Applique embroidery is an important component of the decorative art of traditional Chinese clothing. It is a special decorative art derived from the ingenious combination of embroidery and patching techniques, which shows the simple and simple artistic concept and aesthetic pursuit of the folk people. In this paper, 248 pieces decorated with cloth embroidery were selected from thousands of pieces of clothing collected in domestic clothing museums and related clothing training centers as research materials, and the historical development and expression forms of traditional cloth embroidery were sorted out through the mutual verification of physical specimen observation, historical documents and field investigation. Through practical study, statistical classification of the edging stitch was made, and the characteristics and application of the edging stitch were analyzed, and then the typical process characteristics derived from the edging stitch were analyzed. The research shows that there are rich types and varieties of traditional applique stitching stitches, and there are 5 common categories and more than 10 kinds of straight needles, locking needles, stitching thread, stitches and characteristic stitches, which both inherit and differ from traditional embroidery stitches, and the choice of stitches and embroidery threads is more flexible and less restricted. When completing the fixing and decoration of the patch, the combination and collocation of stitches based on “local” conditions are derived. The “thread” decorative effect produced by the stitch and thread, as well as the edge material itself has both aesthetic and practical technological characteristics. By making up for and expanding the research results of traditional applique embroidery techniques, it is expected to provide important reference significance for the inheritance and innovation of traditional applique embroidery in the future.
